We’ve talked about Jude’s size, right?
Eight months old, 40 pounds … that’s totally normal, yes?
No?
Well, it’s his normal. And I must adjust accordingly.
The problem is, nothing else seems to adjust accordingly. At 8 months, Jude has maxed out pretty much every one of the “one size fits all” settings available in baby gear, baby wear, rear-facing car seats, and cloth diapers. That’s left us scrambling to come up with a Plan B for a whole lot of age-appropriate stuff.
One thing he has completely outpaced are OS fitteds. At this point, there is literally only one of these stash staples that comes close to covering my guy’s cute bum: Greenchild Creations.
Designed by a WAHM for her own heavy-wetting son, Greenchild Creations is an etsy shop that sells probably the most unique diaper I’ve ever used. And while her design wasn’t necessarily focused on extending the fit well above the typical 35 pound mark, it works.
Created in super-soft flannel, Greenchild’s diapers are deceptively simple: just some ample wings, a wide body, and a long, serged flap that is folded to adjust rise. No snaps (unless you order them as a closure), no pre-determined size. Just tuck the flap to fit and grow along with your baby.
Genius, right?
The flannel is layered in a way that functions like a pocket; I do suggest adding more absorbency unless you have a fairly light wetter or change more frequently than the average two hour mark. Since I use bamboo or cotton doublers, I just lay them inside, but the pocket is more than ample to accommodate some pretty thick microfiber if that’s your preference. The leg gusset is fully enclosed in that buttery flannel, and fits snug on my boy’s meaty thighs without rubbing or leaving red lines. One of my favorite fitted features is present in Greenchild diapers, too — an elasticized gather at the back to keep solids in in case of threatened blow-out. Phew!
The prints are playful and fun, and the quality of these diapers is top-notch. I love the variety of colors, yes… but I really appreciate substantial fabrics and the kind of workmanship that means the diaper will hold up to lots of use!
Since I’m a little smitten by diaper pins (I know, I know … weird), the flannel isn’t an issue for me, but if you prefer to steer clear of pins, you’re going to need to order aplix or snaps on these. Snappis and boingos will not work on flannel.
Greenchild Creations fitteds are $14 and available exclusively via etsy. Anne, the mom behind Greenchild, has generously offered our readers the chance to win a flannel OS diaper! Enter below.
